Mission: Impossible 7 sets a May 2022 release date

Mission: Impossible 7 is currently slated for a release on May 27 2022 and will be followed by a Paramount+ streaming debut 45 days later. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible 8 is scheduled for release in July 2023.

Director Christopher McQuarrie recently took to Instagram to share a behind the scenes photo from the sets of Mission: Impossible 7. The photo features First Assistant Director – Mary Boulding celebrating her 100th day on her first film as Assistant Director. Surrounding her is Tom Cruise and his exceptional team for the film.

While the plot for Mission: Impossible 7 is still a mystery, the much-anticipated film will see the return of several series veterans including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, Rebbeca Fergusson, Vanessa Kirby and of course Tom Cruise. Hayley Atwell who portrays Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is another interesting addition to the cast. Commenting on her role, McQuarrie described her character as a “destructive force of nature”.

Cruise initially announced that the seventh and eighth instalments of the franchise will be shot back to back, however, the pandemic caused a severe dent in production schedules. In February, Deadline Hollywood confirmed that the films will not be shot back to back as Tom Cruise will be needed for promotional duties for Top Gun: Maverik ahead of its release on November 18, 2021.

Every instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise features more death-defying stunts and action sequences than the previous one. Tom Cruise’s insistence on doing the stunts himself further raises the stakes of the big-budget Hollywood film which brings back fans to wonder what new stunt will Cruise take on this time.

While there is no confirmed date when the production for the film will end, several actors such as Cary Elwes and Rebbeca Ferguson recently announced that they have wrapped up filming. Considering the importance of their roles, it seems likely that production will end in the coming month.

The seventh instalment will be the third film directed by Christopher McQuarrie in the franchise. The Paramount Pictures film will feature a soundtrack from Lorne Balfe (Black Widow).
