Moon Knight Trailer Embraces the Madness

Marvel Studios unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming series Moon Knight, officially launching the 2022 slate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The six-part series will be premiering on Disney Plus on March 30, 2022.

Oscar Isaac (Star Wars, Dune) plays the titular character Marc Spector, a former US Marine with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) who becomes the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. The show also marks the debut of the character in the MCU.

The trailer gives us a tantalising glimpse at the Moon Knight costume in action, which seems faithful to the classic comics suit. Ethan Hawke who plays an undisclosed character (likely Arthur Harrow) revealed that he was inspired by the cult leader David Koresh.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the series seems to be bizarre storytelling with a blend of fantasy and thriller. Interestingly, James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy pitched a Moon Knight film to Marvel but ended up having no time to develop it further.

Unlike Marvel’s previous Disney Plus series which were based on characters already introduced in the feature films, Moon Knight is a completely new path introducing new characters with no clear connection to the existing MCU storyline. This and the fact that the series seems to be focusing on a more dark storyline feels like a risky move, which can go either way.

The trailer ends with Spector “embracing the chaos” and finally becoming the titular character Moon Knight while beating someone senseless in the bathroom. Along with the trailer, we got a brand-new poster for Moon Knight featuring the moon-shaped shurikens – Crescent Darts, the titular character’s weapon of choice.

Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy. Mohamed Diab and the team of Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead directed the episodes with Jeremy Slater as the head writer.
