New Batman Animated Series Is Coming to HBO Max

A new Batman animated series will soon be arriving on HBO Max and Cartoon Network with Bruce Timm, co-creator of ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ joining the project as an executive producer. The series titled Batman: Caped Crusader will see powerhouse directors J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves also involved in the show. The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho.

“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world,” said the trio in a statement.

Matt Reeves is currently directing The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, as well as developing a spin-off series titled Gotham P.D for HBO Max. The series will reunite Abrams and Reeves after the duo previously worked together on Felicity and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Batman: The Animated Series which aired on Fox Kids from 1992 – 1995 is helmed as the greatest on-screen adaptation of Batman mythology. The noir-inspired cartoon has been praised for its dark nature and well-grounded storytelling. With three renowned personalities working on the new series, fans can expect it to carry on the legacy of its predecessors.

Warner Bros.’ Kids & Family Division have also announced that HBO Max and Cartoon Network have ordered a new Superman animated series as well. ‘My Adventures with Superman’ will see Jack Quaid (The Boys) voicing Superman/Clark Kent. The animated series will tell the story of a “modern, relatable” Clark Kent while exploring the lives of Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen as young reporters in the Daily Planet.

Batman: Caped Crusader will be debuting on HBO Max most likely in 2022.
