What’s the current status?

Filming during the pandemic hasn’t been an easy task. Production had to be first halted in March with 25% of the film done. Which was luckily enough for a trailer to be released during the DC FanDome. When filming was resumed in early September, star Robert Pattinson was tested positive at the Warner Bros studio at Leavesden in Hertfordshire. Constant delays have hampered the production schedule constantly. The Batman is reported to be in production till February 2021.

The Plot

The movie will follow Batman in his second year of fighting crime in Gotham. Viewers will get to see a more vulnerable batman who is still building a relationship with the Gotham City Police Department. The masked vigilante will face off against Riddler, who is murdering the wealthy residents of Gotham city.

The story will also dwell into the corruption of the city which created a breeding ground for criminals. From the trailer, it seems that Riddler will play the role of an anti-hero, though that is mere speculation.

Director Matt Reeves stated that  “It’s about the early days of him being Batman and he’s very far from being perfect.” The film won’t be an origin story for Batman (which is a relief) but will feature a young Bruce Wayne who is still finding his place in Gotham. Matt added, “What was exciting for me was not doing the origin [story] but to meet him in the middle and to see him make mistakes and grow and fail and be heroic in a way that felt very human and very flawed.”
