Peaky Blinders Season 6: The Perfect Finale

Peaky Blinders season 6 has finally wrapped up its stellar run on BBC and what a run it was! From the very first episode to the finale, the series managed to capture and retain the attention of the viewers with its highly praised narrative.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 begins with revisiting the distressing climax of season 5. After a failed assassination attempt of Mosley Oswald, the Peaky Blinders had to face three heartfelt losses. The season quickly addresses the death of Aberama Gold, Barney, and the most shocking death of Aunt Polly. The funeral for Aunt Polly, played by the late actress Helen McCrory was a profoundly poetic tribute.

The last shot from season 5 saw Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) holding a gun to his head in the misty fields outside his home. And yes, Tommy did pull the trigger but it seems death had other plans for the charismatic gang leader. Fast forward to 1933 and it seems that Tommy Shelby has given up on alcohol to clear his mind of the dark thoughts that haunt him from the past.

Tensions continue to rise between Tommy and Michael, as the latter blames the death of his mother, Polly Gray on the former. With the Shelby Company Limited looking to improve their stake in Boston, the series makes it clear that Tommy will go to any lentghts to achieve his goal. After all, he has no limitations.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 provides the much-needed closure to several character arcs and ties up most loose ends to deliver a satisfying finale. The final leg of the series showers viewers with a plethora of heart-felt emotions and shows us a side of certain characters we thought we would never see.

Thomas Shelby played by Cillian Murphy brings his charismatic demeanour to the screen once again. His actions, emotions and character continue to be the heavyweight in the series and rightly so.

There is never a dull moment in the series, in fact, the show manages to keep and build suspense even till the final minutes of the show. The twists and turns are cleverly woven into the story which itself is a remarkable effort from the writers. Writer Steven Knight cleverly weaves real-life historical figures into this epic gangster saga. This is why the show feels unlike anything else we have seen in the same genre.

Peaky Blinders is known as one of the most visually spectacular shows and this season amps up that even further. The cinematography, lighting and haunting soundtrack make the show an immersive viewing experience.

Now that Steven Knight-created British gangster drama has come to an end, fans will now have to be patient to catch the Peaky Blinders on the big screen.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 is now available for streaming on BBC iPlayer and will be coming to Netflix on June 10, 2022.

Final Verdict: 4.6 stars (out of 5).
