Better Call Saul, the critically acclaimed series will end its run with its sixth season. The Bob Odenkirk starrer show follows the life of ex-con artist Jimmy McGill who becomes an attorney. The series follows the tracks of Jimmy, an earnest lawyer who transforms into his greedy alter ego Saul Goodman after a series of tragedies and misfortunes. Fans of the show will be disheartened by this announcement, but don’t fret, It’s all good man!

In a statement to TVLine, showrunner and executed producer Peter Gould stated, “From day one of Better Call Saul, my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero, Jimmy McGill — now AMC and Sony are making that dream come true.”

Better Call Saul is the prequel to Breaking Bad, the series that redefined the concept of a drama masterpiece to the viewers. The stakes for being a spinoff series for a 16 Emmy award-winning show was sky-high. However, needless to say, Better Call Saul has met the expectations of the fans to the extent that people have even debated which show among the two is better.

Better Call Saul has been nominated for the Emmy awards 32 times but has failed to bag a single Emmy yet.

Season 4 finale finally gave us the Saul Goodman that we were accustomed to seeing in Breaking Bad. “It’s all good man”, those would be the last words that Jimmy McGill would utter before changing his law license name to Saul Goodman. Watching Jimmy, a man who is honest and caring at his core spiral down to a life of crime because of his emotional whipsaw was character development at its finest. A person can only bend so much until he snaps. And that’s what Saul Goodman is all about.

Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler) is the new fan favourite among viewers owing to her outstanding performance and character arc. Season 5 saw her implementing the same conman style tactics that Jimmy uses to help her win her case. The story will continue to build upon her moral decline and it will be interesting to see if she will end by ‘Breaking Bad’.

Season 5

Season 5 of AMC’s Better Call Saul wrapped up on April 20th, 2020. Luckily for fans, the show had already finished the post-production of all episodes. Which is why the series continued to air even though the world began to shut down due to COVID-19.

The season ended on a cliffhanger with Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) surviving an ambush by Gus Fring’s assassins. The fate of Nacho, Kim Wexler and Lalo will all be determined in the sixth season as none of them appeared in Breaking Bad, which takes place after the events of Better Call Saul

What is the status quo?

The sixth and final season of the show is slated to begin filming in early 2021. The filming will be taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico where the majority of the show is based. Season 6 will likely premiere around late 2021 or early 2022, though that might change in the future. The pandemic has been an awful thing to deal with, and the entertainment industry is no different to this.

Better Call Saul Season 6 will feature 13 episodes, an additional three from the usual 10 episodes per season. This would mean that Better Call Saul will feature a total of 63 episodes, one more from Breaking Bad. The series will tie up all the loose ends of the story and give us a definitive finale that will tie in directly to Breaking Bad

Better Call Saul Season 6 will also see the return of the original creator of the Breaking Bad universe, Vince Gilligan to the writing room.

“I am happy to say that I twisted Vince’s arm and I got him to return to the writers’ room for a good chunk of the season, It’s wonderful to have him there, so we can finish this show that we started together,” expressed co-creator Peter Gould.

Patrik Fabian (Howard Hamlin), Tony Dalton (Lalo Salamanca) and Michael Mando (Nacho Varga) will also return in Better Call Saul Season 6.

Season 5 had several Breaking Bad cameos sprinkled all over it. Dean Norris (Hank Schrader) and Steven Quezada (Steven Gomez) reprised their roles of DEA agents. Even late Robert Forster (Ed the Disappearer) made a final cameo in Season 5 of Better Call Saul. Perhaps we could see an appearance of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) too, as the series is inching closer to the timeline of Breaking Bad.

New episodes for the past 3 seasons have dropped on Netflix every week after the episode first aired on AMC in the United States. Season 6 will likely follow the same schedule.
