Space Jam: A New Legacy’s official trailer is out and it brings back the nostalgia train. Seeing our classic Looney Toons characters on the big screen after almost 18 years since Looney Toons: Back in Action definitely put’s a smile on our face.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is slated for a release on July 16, 2021. It will have a simultaneous release in theatres and on HBO Max. Subscribers of the platform can watch the movie at no extra cost for one month.

The movie is jam-packed with properties owned by Warner Bros. Many people have even compared the movie with Ready Player One (2018) and Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018), which showcased properties owned by Warner Bros and Disney respectively.

The trailer is so stuffed with cameos from several Warner Bros owned characters that it feels like an all-encompassing marketing gimmick. From King Kong to the Flintstones to even the Scooby-Doo gang, the movie has it all. Heck, even Game of Thrones gets an easter egg in the trailer too.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a sequel to the 1996 Space Jam movie featuring Michael Jordon and our classic Loony Toons characters. The original Space Jam was one of the most talked-about movies of its time as it featured Michael Jordon, who was a renowned basketball player at that time.  The possibility of Space Jam 2 was in talks since the release of the first movie. However, it fell through as NBA star Michael Jordon refused to reprise his role.

LeBron James, who is arguably Jordon’s successor in basketball fame will be playing the protagonist in the film. And from the likes of it, James has put more effort into acting than his predecessor. Which makes sense since the audience today is more matured than the one in 1996.

Space Jam 2 like previous hybrid films, will feature a combination of live-action, traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, and 3D CGI effects.

The Plot of Space Jam: A New Legacy

LeBron James finds himself and his son Dome trapped in virtual space due to the actions of the ‘Serververse’ ruler. He lands up in the Looney Tunes world where he meets Bugs, Lola, Tweety, Yosemite Sam and Tasmanian Devil. He will need the help of our beloved Loony Toons characters to defeat the Goon Squad in a game of basketball to save his son.

The movie will star LeBron James (as himself), Don Cheadle (AI-G Rhythm) and several popular NBA players as well. The movie will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee with music composition from Kris Bowers.
